Salmonella bacteria cause food poisoning in 254 Gia Lai residents after eating banh mi

Tests on three food samples accompanying banh mi, including pate, dried chicken, and fried fish cake, revealed Salmonella contamination, leading to food poisoning in 254 people in An Khe ward after consumption.

The Gia Lai Department of Health announced on 7/9/2025 that Salmonella spp. was the cause of food poisoning for hundreds of people who consumed banh mi from the Bin Bin business household in An Khe ward last August. Test results confirmed three food samples and one patient sample were positive for the bacteria.

By 17:00 on 28/8/2025, 254 individuals had sought examination and treatment at medical facilities, receiving an initial diagnosis of food poisoning. Authorities collected 11 samples of ingredients remaining at the Bin Bin establishment for testing.

By 3/9/2025, all patients had stabilized and were discharged, with no fatalities reported.
