At Viet Duc Friendship Hospital, experts conducted thorough consultations and decided on simultaneous endoscopic surgery for both cancers. Doctor Nguyen Thi Lan, Deputy Head of the Hepatobiliary Surgery Department, described this as a rare and complex case. Operating on cancers in two different organs simultaneously demands high professional expertise and close coordination among multiple specialized departments.
To ensure optimal treatment efficacy, experts held consultations and collaborated closely across the Urology, Hepatobiliary Pancreatic, Diagnostic Imaging, and Anatomic Pathology departments. The patient underwent transurethral bladder tumor resection and laparoscopic pancreaticoduodenectomy.

"Pancreaticoduodenectomy is one of the most complex abdominal surgeries, especially when performed endoscopically, lasting approximately 6 hours and requiring excellent coordination among surgeons", Doctor Lan stated. She added that the team-based approach and unified strategy facilitated the patient's rapid recovery, allowing mobility after 24 hours.
Experts note that endoscopic surgery is a growing trend in modern surgical treatment, particularly for complex cancer cases. This minimally invasive method reduces surgical trauma, shortens recovery periods, and decreases hospital stays for patients.
According to statistics from the Global Cancer Organization - GLOBOCAN 2022, Vietnam recorded 180,480 new cancer cases and 120,184 cancer deaths. Many cancers in their early stages present vague or non-specific symptoms, making them easy for patients to overlook. As the disease progresses, patients may experience uncomfortable symptoms affecting their daily activities and quality of life. Invasive cancer that metastasizes to other parts of the body can also cause complications.
The public is advised to undergo regular health check-ups to detect lesions in their early stages, allowing for optimal treatment efficacy.
