As of 22/5, authorities have not recorded any injuries related to this product line. However, the CPSC instructed retailers like Walmart and Ollie’s Bargain Outlet to remove all stock from shelves last weekend. This action followed expert inspection which revealed tremolite mineral fibers, a toxic form of asbestos, mixed into the sand filling. The agency warns that young children could face severe illnesses if they accidentally inhale the contaminated sand.

The recall encompasses 121,340 products owned by The Orb Factory Limited of Canada and manufactured by a partner in China. Supermarkets sold two models of these soft, stretchable monkey squishy toys, priced between 5-40 USD, from February 2025 to April 2026. Consumers should check for the production date code 3102491A, which the manufacturer printed on the hand of the large yellow monkey (code 17451) or on the back of the cluster of small, multicolored monkeys (code 41929), including: orange, purple, green.
The Orb Factory Limited requests that parents immediately retrieve the toys from children, cease use, and contact the company for a refund. To process a refund, customers need to match the product code with the batch number, place the toy in a thick plastic bag, seal the bag tightly with tape, take photos, and send them to customer service.
If a toy is torn and sand leaks, individuals must wear a mask and gloves, then wipe the area clean with a damp cloth. Following this, they should place all toys and cleaning supplies into two layers of plastic bags, seal them securely with tape, and dispose of them according to local waste disposal regulations.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) emphasizes that exposure to asbestos carries substantial health risks, including lung cancer, mesothelioma, asbestosis, and pleural damage.
In January, Australian retailer Toymate also withdrew two sensory sand toy sets, "The Wonder Co Scoop & Play Ice cream" and "Scoop & Play Dino discovery", from shelves due to similar concerns. Last month, a parent garnered significant attention on social media after posting a video warning that children often mouth or break toys, causing the filler to spill out, and urged the community to return items to protect child safety.
