On 4/2, Doctor Nguyen Moc Son, from the Department of Upper Extremity Surgery and Sports Medicine at Viet Duc Friendship Hospital, reported that the patient arrived with multiple injuries across her body, posing a high risk of infection and threatening her life.
The examination revealed that both arms were the most severely affected. Her right arm sustained an open fracture of the distal radius, along with several small wounds extending from the forearm to the hand. The left hand suffered complex crush injuries, including open fractures of the metacarpal and finger bones, and tendon damage. Doctors warned that without prompt intervention, the patient risked losing hand motor function. Other soft tissue wounds also indicated the ferocity of the attack.

Doctors immediately administered first aid and moved the patient to the emergency operating room for treatment. She is now out of critical condition and her health is temporarily stable. The hospital is arranging her transfer for continued treatment, including rabies serum and vaccine administration as per protocol.
Doctor Son emphasized that animal bites often result in dangerous injuries. Dog bite wounds are typically contaminated and crushed, enabling bacteria to penetrate deep into tissues, bones, tendons, and muscles. Delayed treatment can lead to widespread infection, sepsis, or necrosis.
Doctors advise families to strictly manage pets, never allow dogs to roam freely, and ensure they receive regular rabies vaccinations. The public, especially the elderly and children, should remain vigilant to prevent such accidents. If bitten by a dog, victims must clean the wound properly and seek immediate medical attention at the nearest facility, regardless of how minor the injury appears, to avoid severe complications.
