The investigation revealed that on the morning of 30/7, Doan's group traveled from Dak Lak to Krong No commune to help resolve a land dispute involving two Ho Chi Minh City residents. During the discussion, Doan and another person involved in the dispute began shouting and challenging each other. Doan then called Bao, Hieu, and another unidentified individual for backup.
Later that afternoon, Doan and 6 others arrived in two cars at the house of the person they had argued with earlier, armed with weapons. The group yelled, threatened, and threw rocks and knives at the house. The homeowner retaliated by throwing rocks back.
One member of Doan's group then fired a gun, but missed the homeowner. After a brief clash, Doan and his accomplices fled back towards Dak Lak in their cars.
Upon receiving the report, Lam Dong provincial criminal police pursued and apprehended Doan's group, seizing 5 knives, 2 black objects (resembling rubber bullets), and other related evidence.
