On the morning of 20/9, Trinh Van Cu and his wife left their two children in the care of their paternal grandparents while they went to work. Around 2 PM, after their lunch break, the grandfather, Trinh Van Tan, left his four grandchildren playing at home and went to the rice fields to help his son harvest rice for local residents.
When Tan returned in the late afternoon, he couldn't find his 8-year-old granddaughter. News of the girl's disappearance spread rapidly on social media and through the local broadcasting system. Despite an extensive search that lasted for several hours, her whereabouts remained unknown.
Potential accident sites, including ponds and deserted areas in Hoach Thon village, were thoroughly searched, but no significant clues were found. After 9 PM that evening, a relative, while searching with a flashlight in the corner of Tan’s garden, discovered a sack that seemed out of place.
Upon removing the rocks placed on top, they found the girl's body inside the loosely tied sack.
With the incident confirmed as a shocking murder, the Thanh Hoa Provincial Police Department worked through the night to investigate.
The initial suspect is a boy related to the victim. It is believed a dispute over a hammock may have led to the boy striking the girl, rendering her unconscious.
According to local authorities, the boy comes from a disadvantaged family, with both parents working away from home. At school, he has average academic performance and gets along with his classmates, displaying no unusual psychological signs before the incident.
Local authorities and the school are providing support to the victim's family to help them cope with the tragedy and arrange the funeral.
