British tourists overcharged 300 million VND on card, police assist in recovery

Phu Quoc Special Administrative-Economic Zone Police recently assisted two British tourists in recovering nearly 300 million VND after they were accidentally overcharged during a resort stay.

Terry Wayne Furssedonn and Debra Churchill, British tourists, were staying at a resort in Cay Sao ward, Ham Ninh. During payment, a receptionist mistakenly charged them 292,425 million VND, significantly more than their actual bill of 29,242 million VND.

Following the incident, the resort pledged to refund the difference within three days. However, the tourists did not receive the money by the deadline. The hotel stated the reason was that they had not yet received the funds in their account.

Jamie Farrar, a friend of the two tourists, reported the incident via the online information reception channel for tourists managed by the Phu Quoc Special Administrative-Economic Zone People's Committee. Immediately, the Chief of the Phu Quoc Special Administrative-Economic Zone Police directed forces to coordinate with units in the "Tourism Rapid Response Team" to investigate.

Authorities worked with the tourists, the complainant, and the resort's representative, demanding the establishment determine the cause and provide a written commitment for a specific refund timeline.

By 19/1, the resort's representative had fully refunded the amount to the tourists.

Terry Wayne Furssedonn expressed gratitude for the timely support from Phu Quoc authorities, stating he felt more secure traveling in the area.
