Woman nearly loses over 370 million dong after buying two taels of gold online

A 56-year-old woman transferred over 372 million dong to buy two taels of gold advertised on social media, only for the seller to cut off contact before the goods were received.

Huong Tra Ward Police announced on 14/3 that they arrested Nguyen Ngoc Hau, 30, from Phong Quang Ward, Hue City, as a suspect in a fraud case.

Two days prior, Hau used a Facebook account under the name Yen Nhi to inquire about gold prices in the "Gold 9999 Exchange and Trading Community" group. He then posted an advertisement offering gold at a price below the market rate. The 56-year-old woman from Quang Tri province contacted Hau, agreeing to purchase two taels of gold and transferring 372,6 million dong to his account. Once the payment was received, Hau disconnected his phone and stopped all communication with the buyer.

Realizing she had been scammed, the woman reported the incident to Huong Tra Ward Police. Following 5 hours of investigation, police apprehended Hau in Phu Bai Ward.

At the police station, Hau confessed to the fraudulent act.
