On the morning of 24/3, the Quang Tri Provincial Police Investigation Agency announced the criminal detention of Nguyen Van Dung, 34, residing in Ba Da residential group, Dong Son ward, for investigation into murder and robbery.

Dung confessed that on 20 and 21/4, he pawned his phone and motorbike at the home of Ms. Tran Thi Thuy, 60, residing in residential group 4, to borrow money. After spending this money, Dung stole an additional 18.5 million VND from his mother.

When his family discovered the theft and demanded repayment, Dung conceived a plan to commit robbery to get the money back.

Around 1 p.m. on 23/4, Dung brought a long, pointed knife to Ms. Thuy's house, pretending to repay a debt and asking her for an additional 10 million VND, promising to return it.

While in the living room, as Ms. Thuy handed over the pawn documents along with 9.2 million VND, Dung pulled out the knife hidden in his jacket, restrained the victim, and stabbed her multiple times in the chest. The victim died en route to the emergency room.

After two hours on the run, Dung was apprehended at an Internet cafe in Dong Son ward, along with the weapon used in the crime.
