The Hanoi Police Department's investigative agency opened the defamation case on 18/9/2025.
Police received a complaint on 12/9 alleging that false information about Ms. Hoa had been posted and spread on Facebook. The police assessed the posts as "seriously defaming the honor and dignity of Ms. Hoa and causing damage to her legal rights and interests."
The Facebook post about Bui Quynh Hoa on 12/9 contained sensitive information and offensive language. This information sparked public backlash and became a topic of discussion on various social media groups.
On 19/9, Ms. Hoa's representative told VnExpress that the post and its subsequent shares led to widespread misunderstanding about her. The lives of Ms. Hoa and her relatives were severely disrupted by the "baseless rumors."
"However, Ms. Hoa chose to work with the authorities instead of immediately addressing the issue publicly, aiming to protect herself, verify the information, and handle the situation to provide a clear explanation to the public," her representative said.
