Driver arrested after fatal three-vehicle collision

Duong Kiet Tam has been arrested for failing to maintain a safe distance, causing a three-vehicle collision that killed a father and daughter.

26-year-old Tam, from Ho Chi Minh City, has been detained for four months while being investigated for "violation of road traffic regulations" under Article 260, Clause 2 of the Penal Code. The People's Procuracy of Ha Tinh province approved and announced the decision on 27/7.

At 10:40 PM on 20/7, Tam was driving a truck with a Ho Chi Minh City license plate southbound on National Highway 1. Upon reaching Cam Xuyen commune, formerly Cam Xuyen district, his truck rear-ended a five-seater car with a Ha Tinh license plate, driven by Nguyen Trong Bac, who was traveling with his wife and two children.

The impact propelled the car into the oncoming lane, where it collided with a passenger bus with a Nghe An license plate driven by Nguyen Ngoc Chien. Bac and his 9-year-old daughter were killed, while his wife and son sustained serious injuries. All three vehicles were damaged.

The investigation determined that Tam failed to maintain a safe distance, leading to the initial collision and subsequent chain reaction.
