On the afternoon of 25/9, Dung, 35, from Kien Giang, was convicted of traffic violations by the District 2 People's Court of Ho Chi Minh City.
The court acknowledged the significant property damage caused by Dung's actions. However, his candid confession and remorse contributed to a slightly reduced sentence.
Regarding civil liability, the court ruled that the truck owner is responsible for compensating the victims. The court reserved the right for those seeking damages to file separate civil suits.

On the afternoon of 8/8/2024, Dung was driving a truck carrying over 22 tons of lobster feed from District 7 to Thu Duc City. Halfway down the bridge, Dung applied the brakes but discovered a burst air line in the brake chamber. This caused the truck to lose control and speed down the incline.
The truck subsequently collided with seven other vehicles traveling in the same direction. A sanitation worker on the bridge was thrown from the impact but sustained minor injuries. Two cars were completely engulfed in flames, while three other cars and two tractor-trailers suffered severe damage. The total damage amounted to over 7.4 billion VND.
Authorities determined that Dung's truck exceeded its permitted load of 14.4 tons by 7.7 tons. The cargo exceeded the bridge and road's total weight limit by 31.7%, the axle weight limit by 52.6%, and the allowed cargo weight by 52.8%.
