Female U.S. officer used internal system to track romantic rival

Elizabeth Snowman identified repeatedly accessing a license plate recognition camera database to track her boyfriend's ex-wife.

On 7/8, Elizabeth, 36, a police officer in North Carolina, was arrested on charges of unauthorized access to an internal computer network. She allegedly used the department's database to track her boyfriend's ex-wife in another state.

Police stated the investigation began after an audit of the Metropolitan Police Department's license plate recognition system uncovered Elizabeth's activities.

Initial findings indicate she accessed the system 31 times and provided false statements when questioned by her superiors about these actions. Two of these accesses occurred while she was off duty.

Court documents do not specify what particular information Elizabeth accessed or her intentions for using it. The investigation remains ongoing.

Unit leaders have expressed concern about other similar cases that may not yet have been detected. Currently, 10 other officers are under suspicion.
