Police search for Facebook owner Duong Thi Quynh Tam

Investigators are searching for Duong Thi Quynh Tam to clarify allegations of abusing democratic freedoms and infringing upon the legal rights and interests of organizations and individuals on Facebook.

On 8/8, the Hanoi Police Department announced that its Police Investigation Agency is addressing criminal intelligence concerning a group of individuals, including Duong Thi Quynh Tam, 40, residing in Giang Vo ward. According to police, Tam shows signs of abusing democratic freedoms to infringe upon State interests, as well as the legal rights and interests of organizations and individuals on the Facebook social network.

During the verification process, investigators have not determined Tam's current whereabouts, leading to the issuance of a search warrant to aid the investigation. Individuals with information regarding Tam are requested to report it to the Police Investigation Agency of the Hanoi Police Department.

Tam is widely known on Facebook, boasting over 143,000 followers. Recently, she and another woman repeatedly engaged in online disputes, posting and livestreaming content that criticized each other. Subsequently, this individual sued Tam, accusing her of "slander, defamation, and insult."

On the afternoon of 8/8, following the public announcement of the search, Tam posted on her personal Facebook account. She stated that she has regularly returned to Vietnam in recent months but "has not received any calls, messages, or emails" from authorities inviting her for questioning. She asserted that authorities only requested her cooperation in verifying information related to the lawsuit.
