Nguyen Thi Hang, residing in Kon Jri Xut village, Dak Ro Wa commune, was temporarily detained by the Quang Ngai Provincial Police Investigation Agency on 7/8 for property appropriation fraud.

Initial investigations revealed that Hang, needing money for debts and expenses, falsely claimed to be mobilizing capital for "bank refinancing" loans. She promised high interest and quick returns to gain trust, leading many to hand over funds.

Initially, Hang repaid principal and interest as promised. However, she diverted additional mobilized funds, using them to settle old debts and cover personal expenses. When she could no longer make payments, it was determined that Hang had appropriated a total of over 14 billion VND from victims.

During verification, the suspect denied the charges. However, investigators confirmed sufficient grounds to prosecute Hang for property appropriation fraud under Clause 4, Article 174 of the Penal Code.

The case remains under active investigation.

Police advise the public to be cautious of invitations to invest or lend for "bank refinancing" schemes that promise high interest and quick returns. Before transferring money, individuals should verify the loan's purpose, the borrower's repayment ability, and any collateral. They should not solely rely on personal relationships or consistent initial interest payments.

If any unusual signs are detected, people should report them to the police.
