Female vendor murdered by lover on way to market

Nguyen Tien Dung fatally stabbed his girlfriend on her way to the market, then returned to a camp and attempted suicide by drinking disinfectant, but failed.

On 26/4, the Ninh Binh Provincial Police investigation agency announced that Nguyen Tien Dung, 43, from Tuyen Hoa commune, Quang Tri province, was identified as the suspect in the murder of Le Thi Hong Minh, 31, residing in Binh Minh commune.

Police arrested Dung over two hours after the crime, while he was hiding at an aquaculture camp.

According to the initial investigation, Dung moved from Quang Tri to Ninh Binh in early 2025 to work for shrimp farming facilities in Binh Minh commune. During this time, Dung and Minh were in a relationship, which was frequently fraught with conflict.

Early morning on 25/4, knowing Minh was preparing to leave home to sell goods, Dung secretly followed her. When they reached a deserted road in Binh Minh 10 hamlet, he approached, forced her to stop her vehicle, and then fatally stabbed her multiple times with a knife, causing her death at the scene before fleeing.

Upon receiving reports of a woman's body next to a motorcycle carrying goods, Ninh Binh Provincial Police mobilized forces to track the suspect.

When police surrounded a camp in hamlet 8B, Binh Minh commune, Dung barricaded himself inside. When apprehended, the suspect showed signs of severe abdominal pain and vomiting. Dung admitted to drinking disinfectant (a chemical used for water purification in aquaculture) in an attempt to commit suicide.

Authorities transported the suspect to Kim Son General Hospital for emergency treatment. Dung is now out of critical condition and is being closely monitored for the investigation.
