Food safety administration head Tran Viet Nga arrested

Food safety administration head Tran Viet Nga and 5 subordinates are accused of accepting bribes while reviewing applications and issuing certificates for food supplement advertisements.

On 29/8, the investigative police agency of the Ministry of Public Security prosecuted 6 people for bribery, including: Director Tran Viet Nga, Tran Thi Thu Lieu (deputy head of a department), Phung Thi Thuy Ha (specialist in the Food Poisoning Surveillance and Media Communication Department), Nguyen Thi Hai Ha (specialist in the Standards and Testing Management Department), Nguyen Thi Viet Ha, and Tran Thi Luu (both specialists in the Food Product Management Department).

Among them, Nga, Lieu, and Ha are in custody. The others are subject to travel restrictions.

Four people were prosecuted for bribery, including: Dau Thi Giang, 31, residing in Nghe An; Nguyen Thanh Uyen, Quach Thi Tra My, and Tran Thi Quynh Trang, all 33, residing in Hanoi.

Authorities also searched 15 locations, including the residences and workplaces of the accused at the Food Safety Administration and other localities.

The prosecution of these 9 individuals is part of a broader investigation into bribery occurring at the Food Safety Administration under the Ministry of Health, along with related companies in Hanoi and other provinces and cities nationwide.

The investigative police agency of the Ministry of Public Security is expanding the investigation.

Previously, on 13/5, the Police Department for Investigation of Corruption, Economic, and Smuggling Crimes (C03, Ministry of Public Security) prosecuted and detained Nguyen Thanh Phong, the former director, and 4 officials of the Food Safety Administration for bribery.
