Doan was arrested and detained on 29/8, according to the Thanh Hoa Province Police Investigation Agency.
The arrest warrant was approved by the provincial People's Procuracy.

Doan is accused of "violations of accounting regulations with serious consequences" under Article 221 of the penal code. Specific details of the violations have not yet been released. Several of Doan's relatives and subordinates were also summoned for questioning.
On the night of 28/8, hundreds of Thanh Hoa Province police officers searched the 65-year-old Doan's residence in Sam Son. Simultaneously, police also sealed off and searched the headquarters of Dong A Company on Le Loi Boulevard, Hac Thanh ward.
Police stated that they "received reports from the public alleging illegal activities" by Doan and determined there were signs of criminal behavior.
The search lasted about five hours, concluding around 2 a.m.

In addition to being the chairman and general director of Dong A Real Estate Group, Doan is also a representative and member of the Economic and Budget Committee of the Thanh Hoa Provincial People's Council. He also serves as the president of the Thanh Hoa Province Business Association and president of Dong A Thanh Hoa Football Club.
