Da Nang police detained Vernazz Joseph Alexander (nationality unknown) on 13/9 for investigation of illegal possession of a firearm.

Around 3 a.m. on 5/9, Alexander and his daughter were at a bar on An Thuong 32 Street in Ngu Hanh Son Ward when he got into a dispute with another patron.

Alexander then returned to his residence on Le Cao Lang Street (Cam Le Ward), about 8 km from An Thuong, retrieved a handgun, and went back to the bar. He brandished the weapon at the other person before leaving.

Police identified Alexander as a suspect. On the night of 12/9, they searched his rented apartment on Le Cao Lang Street and discovered a CF98-9 handgun in a wardrobe, with 12 rounds in the magazine.

Alexander said he purchased the gun in Cambodia for 700 USD at the end of 2024 for self-defense.

Alexander entered Vietnam in 2019 and has lived in Lao Cai, Ho Chi Minh City, Gia Lai, Can Tho, Lang Son, Nghe An, Hanoi, Quang Ninh, and Hai Phong. He moved to Da Nang in April of this year.
