International hospital caught discharging untreated waste into the environment

Police caught S.I.S International General Hospital discharging untreated wastewater, showing signs of environmental pollution.

On 12/5, Can Tho City Police continued to verify and consolidate records to process the case involving S.I.S Can Tho International General Hospital in An Binh ward, which was found discharging untreated wastewater into the domestic drainage system.

Previously, economic investigation police detected signs of pollution from the hospital's wastewater, which affected residents' lives. They then coordinated a surprise inspection to prevent and address the violation.

During the inspection, the hospital's wastewater treatment system was operating normally. However, the inspection team discovered that wastewater from cleaning the domestic waste collection area and from the laundry area, which handles items such as bed sheets, pillowcases, and patient clothes, was not directed into the treatment system. Instead, it was discharged directly into the domestic drainage system of the urban area along Nguyen Van Cu street.

The hospital representative admitted the act when working with the inspection team.

Authorities collected two wastewater samples for analysis to assess quality and pollution levels: one from the final discharge point where untreated wastewater from the laundry and domestic waste collection areas was released, and another from after the hospital's main wastewater treatment system.

The inspection team ordered the hospital to immediately stop discharging untreated wastewater into the environment and to strictly comply with environmental protection regulations.

S.I.S Can Tho International General Hospital has been operating since 2019, with a capacity of 200 beds, specializing in stroke and cardiovascular intervention in the Mekong Delta region.
