Killing brother-in-law after repeated assaults

Despite regularly helping his sister's family, Duong Van Danh was repeatedly assaulted by his drunken brother-in-law, leading him to strike the man with a wooden stick, causing his death.

On 14/9, Duong Van Danh, 43, was taken into temporary criminal custody by An Giang provincial police for investigation into the act of homicide.

Duong Van Danh worked as a fisherman, primarily using his income to support his own family and his sister's household. The two families were close, and Duong Van Danh often cared for his nieces and nephews.

However, his brother-in-law frequently became intoxicated, using it as an excuse to assault and verbally abuse Duong Van Danh. During these incidents, family members intervened, preventing serious injury.

On the morning of 11/9, Duong Van Danh had been drinking at a neighbor's house before returning home to prepare a meal for his nieces and nephews. Aware that his brother-in-law was drinking at an acquaintance's house nearby, Duong Van Danh went to retrieve him. An argument ensued, escalating into a fight that was eventually broken up.

According to the investigative agency, upon returning home, the brother-in-law continued to verbally abuse and assault Duong Van Danh. After being struck on the head with a helmet, Duong Van Danh retaliated, grabbing a piece of wood and hitting his brother-in-law on the head, causing him to collapse instantly.

Following the altercation, the brother-in-law went inside and lay down to sleep. He was found deceased the following morning. An autopsy later confirmed the cause of death as traumatic brain injury.
