Killing over a challenge

Nguyen Hoang Viet, 26, allegedly used a knife to kill a man who challenged him, then surrendered to police.

An Giang Provincial Police criminally detained Viet on 13/5, investigating him for murder.

The investigation revealed that Viet worked for Ms. An, 36, who lives in Long Dien commune. On the evening of 11/5, Viet accompanied his employer to My Luong market to purchase sticky rice.

Before leaving, Viet took a knife for self-defense and his employer's protection. She had previously faced assault from a local group due to business disputes.

At the sticky rice stall, Viet's employer became involved in an argument with Hung, 47. During the altercation, Hung reportedly challenged Viet to a "one-on-one" fight. The suspect then drew his knife, stabbing and slashing Hung multiple times, which resulted in his death.
