Therefore, citizens are required to present their physical passports when completing immigration procedures at border gates, as announced by the Immigration Management Department of Hanoi Public Security.
Authorities state that integrating passport information into VNeID allows citizens to easily present details when required, eliminating the need to carry a physical copy and reducing the risk of damage or loss. However, the integrated passport is only valid for administrative procedures.

Furthermore, effective 1/7, seven scenarios will result in passport revocation or cancellation of validity. Three of these cases are new additions: an old passport will be rendered invalid if a citizen receives a new ordinary passport, even if the old one is still valid; passports issued with incorrect information will be revoked; and passports belonging to wanted individuals will be confiscated and invalidated.
The law maintains four existing grounds for revocation: invalidating a lost passport that is still valid; invalidating a passport if it remains uncollected 12 months after authorities scheduled its return, without a written explanation; and revoking and invalidating passports of individuals who have renounced, been stripped of Vietnamese nationality, or whose naturalization decision has been overturned.
Diplomatic and official passports that are still valid will also be revoked if their holders no longer meet the eligibility criteria. Additionally, passports will be revoked for individuals who have not complied with administrative penalties for immigration violations.
