The initial investigation indicates Chi was suspected of drug use. To investigate, local police assigned Mr. Hung, 63, a local security officer, to summon Chi to the station. Each time Mr. Hung approached, Chi would evade him through the back door.
On the evening of 18/8, Chi encountered Mr. Hung at a local cafe. He initially avoided contact, but upon returning home, fueled by anger, Chi armed himself with an iron bar and returned to the cafe seeking revenge.
Chi stabbed Mr. Hung and fled. Despite receiving emergency medical treatment, Mr. Hung died. On 21/8, Chi was apprehended while hiding in Ho Chi Minh City.
