On 23/1, the Ha Tinh Provincial People's Court sentenced Hung, 48, from Hung Nguyen commune, Nghe An province, to prison for attempted murder and illegal use of military weapons. The charges were brought under Articles 123 and 304 of the 2015 Penal Code.
In court, Hung expressed remorse, stating that 'blind love' led him to lose control. He sought a reduced sentence to atone for his actions.
The court emphasized that Hung's actions posed a danger to society and intentionally jeopardized another person's health and life. The court ruled that a strict sentence was necessary for deterrence and public safety.

According to the indictment, Hung and Trinh Thi Tinh, 47, from Nghi Xuan commune, Ha Tinh province, began a relationship in 2015 and lived together. In early 2025, conflicts arose, and Tinh ended contact with Hung.
On the morning of 6/7/2025, Hung visited Tinh's home, proposing they reconcile, but she refused. Three days later, on provincial road 552 in Duc Minh commune, Hung pursued Tinh, who was riding a motorbike. He forced her to the roadside, leading to an argument.
Authorities accused Hung of subsequently opening his motorbike's storage compartment, retrieving a 32 cm knife, and stabbing Tinh multiple times. She fell onto a patch of grass. After the assault, Hung attempted suicide by cutting himself with the same knife but survived.
Residents found both Tinh and Hung unconscious in the field and rushed them to the hospital for emergency treatment. Medical examination confirmed Tinh sustained 20% injury.
