Man chased and attacked over suspected dog theft

A man was severely injured after being pursued and attacked by a group who suspected him of stealing dogs, police reported.

On 9/8, Nguyen Van Phuoc, 43, and Tran Nhut Quoc, 17, were criminally detained by An Giang provincial police. They are under investigation for intentionally causing injury.

Tran Nhut Duy, 30, Quoc's elder brother, also involved in the case, was released on bail by his family during the investigation.

According to the police, the incident began late on 31/7. Phuoc saw Tran Minh Phung, 31, and another young man ride a motorbike past his house, carrying a net commonly used for catching dogs.

Suspecting Phung had previously stolen his dog, Phuoc returned home and instructed Quoc, his partner's son, to retrieve weapons and search for Phung. Duy, aware of the situation, drove behind them.

Upon reaching An Thoi hamlet, My Thoi ward, Quoc blocked Phung's motorbike as Phung was riding alone. Phuoc then used a wooden chair leg, while Quoc wielded a homemade knife to severely injure Phung.

Duy, who was present, carried a three-section staff but did not participate in the attack. Afterward, all three returned home to sleep.

An acquaintance took the victim to An Giang General Hospital for emergency treatment.
