Man fatally stabs drinking friend after challenge

A man hosting a gathering in An Giang province reportedly stabbed a drinking companion to death after an argument escalated and he was challenged.

Nguyen Van Huot, 49, was arrested by An Giang Provincial Police on 21/5. He is being investigated for murder after allegedly fatally stabbing a friend during a drinking party at his home two days prior.

The incident occurred at noon on 19/5. Huot had invited six friends, including Hong, 40, from Can Tho City, and Hong's friend Giang, to his home for a party. An argument erupted when one guest demanded money from Hong. Giang intervened, cursing at the creditor.

Huot, the host, told the guests involved to stop cursing and leave his house. However, Hong and Giang turned their aggression towards Huot, challenging him to a "one-on-one" fight. When Huot stepped outside, Hong reportedly struck him.

In response, Huot went back into his house, retrieved a grass-cutting knife, and fatally attacked Hong. Following the stabbing, Huot surrendered to the police, handing over the weapon.
