On 21/10, Tran Van Dinh, aged 64, residing in Thanh Khe district, saw a Facebook account advertising a prize game, promising "deposit one billion VND to receive 10 billion VND".
After contacting via Zalo and Telegram, Dinh was directed to the Hay88 website, which Nghia created. Initially, Dinh was allowed to win small amounts to build trust. Once Dinh transferred one billion VND, Nghia cut off communication and deleted the account.
Using electronic traces, the Criminal Police Department identified Nghia as the suspect and coordinated with Thuy Nguyen Ward Police in Hai Phong to summon him.
During a search of his residence, police seized 700 million VND and several tools used for the crime.
The case is currently under expanded investigation. Police advise the public to be cautious of online prize advertisements and to proactively provide information if they have been scammed by similar methods.
