Armed with two knives, Tran Van Long sought an opponent to resolve a conflict but, failing to find them, proceeded to repeatedly slash the windows of multiple cars parked along the roadside.

The suspect has two previous convictions for murder and illegal drug possession.

Initially, Long stated that he had an altercation with an unknown group of people while at karaoke. Afterward, he took a cleaver and a fruit knife to find his "opponents" to resolve the dispute, but was unsuccessful.

As he walked home along the sidewalk of Nguyen Hoang Ton street, heading towards Vo Chi Cong in Tay Ho ward, Long saw several cars parked along the roadside and began repeatedly slashing their windows with the knives.

At least four cars parked in front of a building's lobby had their windows slashed. The slashes were all on the right side, near the driver's seat and rear seats. One Mercedes car sustained broken glass and scratches to its body.
