On 17/9, the Tay Ninh Provincial People's Court sentenced Thanh to life imprisonment for murder and ordered him to pay nearly 200 million VND in compensation to the victim's family.

Thanh had two prior convictions for robbery and theft. In 2023, he moved to Duc Hoa commune to work as a laborer and met Thuy. They began living together. Early last year, the couple separated after a disagreement.

On the afternoon of 13/4/2024, Thuy visited Thanh's rented room and demanded the return of a motorbike she had purchased for him during their time together. He refused. After arguing, Thanh suggested they buy takeout and eat together back at his place.

Later that night, while Thanh was showering, Thuy again demanded the motorbike. He flew into a rage, assaulted her, and strangled her with a belt.

Panicked and naked, Thanh fled into the street. Passersby recorded videos and posted them on social media. After seeing the videos, Thanh's family went to his room, discovered Thuy's body, and alerted the police.
