Nguyen Van Bien, 35, from Can Tho, was temporarily detained by Dong Nai Police on 21/2 for investigation into murder. The arrest follows an incident where Bien allegedly set his business partner on fire and then stabbed him over a financial disagreement.
The incident occurred on the afternoon of the first day of Tet, in Ho Nai ward. According to the investigation, Bien had arranged to meet his partner, Nguyen Thanh Hien, 37, to discuss financial disputes related to their shared construction investment and to settle outstanding debts. Bien had specifically asked Hien to bring ledgers detailing material and labor costs.

During their conversation, Bien suddenly took a plastic bottle containing gasoline, which he had prepared beforehand. He splashed the fuel on Hien and ignited it. Hien, suffering burns, immediately jumped off his vehicle and attempted to flee. However, Bien then retrieved a knife he had hidden on his person, pursued Hien, and repeatedly slashed his head and left arm, causing him to collapse on the road.
Bystanders rushed the critically injured Hien to emergency medical care. Police apprehended Bien one day after the assault.
