On 17/7, Nguyen Tien Quang (38), Bui Tien Dat (28), and Nguyen The Dan (17) were tried by the Ha Noi People's Court on charges of murder and disturbing public order.
Also involved in the case, Ngo Pham Hai Long (21), Khuat Xuan Trong (33), and Do Van Manh (23) were prosecuted for disturbing public order.
According to case files, in the early hours of 29/8/2025, Quang, Dat, and Dan went to a massage parlor in Gia Lam commune. Quang requested a female employee for service, while his two friends waited on the ground floor.
After showering, Quang did not find the massage employee and went downstairs to leave, but the female owner demanded payment. Believing he had not used any service, Quang refused to pay, leading to an argument.
Angered, Quang kicked over a signboard, threw a chair at a glass door, and left. The female owner chased him with a metal stick, but Quang snatched it, hit her head, and then continued to throw bricks at the shop's glass door.
Quang, Dat, and Dan rode away on motorcycles. At this point, Mr. Tan (62), the owner's husband, arrived, learned of the incident, and pursued them with one other person.
When they met at the Ngo Xuan Quang - Co Bi intersection, Quang's group stopped their vehicles and assaulted Mr. Tan. Quang is accused of throwing a brick that struck the victim's head, rendering him unconscious.
Recruiting more people, returning with weapons
After the altercation, Quang's group went to a nearby restaurant, recruited Long, Manh, and Trong, and returned. The group carried pig-sticking knives, iron pipes, and many empty beer bottles, driving at high speeds, swerving, and weaving dangerously.
Quang also dragged the tip of a pig-sticking knife along the road as they drove, creating sparks and noise.
Upon returning to where Mr. Tan lay unconscious, Long and Manh threw empty beer bottles onto the road, while Dat used an iron pipe to threaten bystanders. Seeing the victim severely injured and bleeding heavily, the group fled.
Mr. Tan suffered a traumatic brain injury, resulting in 99% bodily harm, and is now in a vegetative state.
Quang, Dan, Long, Trong, and Manh later surrendered. Dat fled and is currently wanted by police.
Regarding the actions of Mr. Tan's wife, investigators determined her involvement was not sufficient for criminal prosecution.
After opening the trial, the Trial Panel decided to return the case file for additional investigation to clarify the victim's family's compensation claims.
