Meritorious artist Kieu Thanh - 'Tra cave' actress arrested

Meritorious artist Kieu Thi Thanh, an actress famous for her role as 'Tra cave,' has been arrested on charges of drug trafficking to fund her own drug use.

On 25/8, Hanoi City Police announced that the Investigation Police Agency had initiated legal proceedings and temporarily detained Meritorious Artist Kieu Thanh to investigate illegal drug trafficking charges. At the time of the inspection, Thanh was found using heroin and crystal meth with several other individuals.

According to the police, to fund her own drug use, Thanh sold drugs to users for profit and regularly gathered at her home to use drugs.

Kieu Thanh, 45 years old, was born in Hanoi and often played antagonistic or strong-willed roles. She appeared in films such as Canh sat hinh su, Hai phia chan troi, and Khi dan chim tro ve. Kieu Thanh gained widespread recognition for her role as "Tra cave" in the film Phia truoc la bau troi, a defining role that opened up a broad artistic path for her.

After many years of dedication, Kieu Thanh was awarded the title of Meritorious Artist in 2015. On 17/7, two days after she submitted a resignation letter based on personal wishes, the Hanoi Drama Theater terminated her labor contract.

Kieu Thanh's arrest is part of the Hanoi City Police's ongoing efforts to combat and dismantle numerous drug rings. Following the dismantling of a ring manufacturing and trafficking drug paraphernalia, Yen Hoa Ward Police coordinated with the Drug Crime Investigation Police Department to track and expand the investigation, leading to the discovery of this drug ring.

The investigation determined that the criminal group within the ring operated discreetly, transacting primarily via social networks. From these sales contacts, police traced user groups and organizations involved in illegal drug use, uncovering many more groups regularly gathering to use drugs.

Notably, many individuals with prior drug convictions reoffended, ordering drugs via the Telegram application and then gathering to use them at home.

To date, the Investigation Police Agency of Hanoi City Police has initiated legal proceedings for the case, indicted and temporarily detained 82 defendants for manufacturing drug paraphernalia, illegal drug trafficking, organizing illegal drug use, and related offenses.
