According to investigators, a family gathering to celebrate Tet at the home of Mr. Le The Hung, 52, in Bac Hai residential group, Nghi Son ward, was violently interrupted by a loud explosion around 6:45 PM on 18/2. The blast shattered glass, collapsed the iron door frame at the front of the house, and damaged furniture. Ten family members sustained injuries.

Investigators identified Kieu Van Thanh, 54, residing in Ngoc Son residential group, Nghi Son ward, as the suspect who threw the mine. Thanh is the brother-in-law of the homeowner, Mr. Hung.

That night, Major General To Anh Dung, Director of Thanh Hoa Provincial Police (second from right), personally visited the scene. *Photo: Lam Son*

During the subsequent search, authorities discovered Thanh had died by hanging in the area of Anh Phat petroleum depot, also located in Bac Hai residential group.

Thanh Hoa Provincial Police have initiated a murder investigation to further clarify the cause and motive behind the crime.
