Multi-vehicle accident in Lam Dong 'caused by drivers chasing each other'

Nguyen Quoc Dao, 35, is accused of driving a container truck and chasing another car on national route 14, leading to a multi-vehicle accident that killed one pedestrian and seriously injured two others.

Lam Dong Provincial Police announced on 23/2 that Nguyen Quoc Dao, 35, residing in Khanh Hoa, has been temporarily detained following a fatal multi-vehicle accident on national route 14. Dao is under investigation for allegedly violating road traffic regulations after his container truck was involved in a high-speed chase with another vehicle, resulting in one death and two serious injuries.

The accident occurred in the early morning of 13/2 on Ho Chi Minh road (national route 14) as it passes through Nhan Co commune. A tractor-trailer driven by Dao, traveling from Nhan Co towards TP HCM, collided with the rear of a Dak Lak-registered truck moving in the same direction.

The forceful collision caused the truck to spin sideways, swerve into the opposite lane, and strike two motorcycles traveling in the opposite direction. Ms. Dinh Thi Oanh, 39, residing in Nhan Co commune, died at the scene, and two other individuals sustained serious injuries.

Initial investigations reveal that the accident stemmed from a conflict over not yielding right-of-way. The Dak Lak-registered truck driver and Dao reportedly engaged in aggressive swerving and a high-speed chase on national route 14, which ultimately led to the crash.

Dao was arrested shortly after the incident, but the driver of the truck fled the scene. Lam Dong Provincial Police are actively searching for the truck driver to continue with legal proceedings.
