On 27/7, residents discovered 41-year-old motorbike taxi driver Chau Sa Ruonl seriously injured in a remote field in Thoai Son commune and took him to the hospital. The victim reported being attacked and robbed by a man he had transported from Cam Mountain.
The police investigation identified Trung as the suspect. He had fled the area and severed contact with his family. After nearly a month of searching and tracking his connections, police apprehended Trung while he was visiting his girlfriend in Thoi Long ward, Can Tho.
Trung confessed to police that he was unemployed and homeless. On 26/7, he traveled from Can Tho to Cam Mountain for a pilgrimage. Upon descending the mountain, Trung hired Ruonl for a ride to Sap Mountain despite having no money. During the journey, he decided to steal the motorbike.
Trung directed the driver onto secluded roads and then attacked him with scissors. He sold the stolen motorbike for 5 million VND.
