Police install rescue station to prevent suicides at Serepok Bridge

Life buoys, rescue ropes, and encouraging messages have been strategically placed along Serepok Bridge, a site of previous suicide attempts, to provide immediate assistance for individuals in crisis and manage emergencies.

On 14/8, Cu Jut Commune Police announced the launch of a "mini rescue station" model on Serepok Bridge. This initiative targets the bridge, which carries national highway 14 over the Serepok River, linking Cu Jut commune in Lam Dong province and Hoa Phu commune in Dak Lak province.

Multiple stations along the bridge are equipped with life buoys, rescue ropes, and essential tools, enabling immediate use by residents and emergency responders.

Adjacent to the rescue gear, message boards display encouraging statements, including: "All difficulties will pass; give yourself another chance," and "You are not alone; someone is always ready to listen and help."

These highly visible boards aim to reach individuals on the bridge experiencing mental distress.

Residents are urged to help maintain the stations, refraining from moving equipment or misusing it. If someone exhibits signs of mental distress or potential suicidal intent, residents should offer encouragement and promptly notify police or authorities for timely support.

Serepok Bridge serves as a vital transportation link between Lam Dong and Dak Lak provinces on national highway 14. Recently, it has been the site of several suicide attempts.

According to Cu Jut Commune Police, the model aims to shift from reactive incident response to early risk identification. This increases accessibility and support for individuals prone to impulsive, life-threatening actions.
