Police raid gambling den hidden on forested hill

Dang Ha Vu operated a gambling den deep within a forested hill, keeping the location secret until the last minute.

On 22/8, Da Nang Police Department's Criminal Investigation Division announced the arrest of 14 individuals and the ongoing pursuit of Vu and other accomplices involved in a gambling operation located on a forested hill in Viet An commune.

According to investigators, the gambling den was run by 41-year-old Dang Ha Vu, a resident of Viet An commune. Vu chose remote, hilly terrain with difficult access and frequently changed the den's location. Gamblers had to be acquaintances, receive an introduction, or be directly invited by Vu's group.

Upon reaching a designated area, players were transported or guided to the den. The den operated daily from 2 PM to 9 PM, attracting 20 to 40 gamblers with transactions reaching hundreds of millions of VND.

Around 4:30 PM on 20/8, three task forces comprising 50 officers from the Criminal Investigation Division and Viet An commune police trekked through forests and streams for several kilometers to reach the scene.

Three lookouts, Pham Van Tam (26), Nguyen Phuoc Vinh (35), and Tran Thanh Nhan (24), residents of Hiep Duc and Viet An communes, were the first to be apprehended.

The two remaining task forces continued to the forested area near An Tay lake. Seeing the police, some gamblers fled into the surrounding hills. Eighteen individuals, aged 26 to 51, were arrested at the scene. Vu, two dealers, and several gamblers escaped.

Police seized over 8.6 million VND from the gambling tables, 184 million VND in cash, 28 motorbikes, a Toyota Fortuner, and other items.

Initial statements from the suspects revealed that Vu hired Nhan, Vinh, and Tam as lookouts, and Do Quang Vinh (26) and another young man to transport gamblers to the den, paying each 300,000 VND per day.

On the afternoon of 20/8, gamblers were transported to the location. Vu collected a fee of 200,000 VND per person per hour.
