On August 7, Vo Ta Hoanh, 30, residing in Tran Phu ward, along with 16 others, were indicted, temporarily detained, and prohibited from leaving their residences by the Ha Tinh Provincial Police. They face charges of illegally trading narcotic substances.

Another 20 individuals are being questioned to clarify their involvement in the illegal use of narcotic substances.

In early 2026, Hoanh and his accomplices set up the drug trafficking ring. They sold "synthetic cannabis", often disguised as herbs or electronic cigarettes, primarily through social media. The drugs were sourced from other provinces, then divided into smaller quantities for sale to workers in local economic and industrial zones, as well as students at various junior and senior high schools.

Over the first seven months of the year, the suspects' bank accounts recorded more than 9,000 transactions, totaling over 10 billion VND.

Since early July, authorities have raided multiple locations, arresting and summoning nearly 40 individuals linked to the operation.

"Synthetic cannabis", also known as "co My", is a synthetic drug where stimulant compounds are infused onto dried leaves, often disguised as herbal products or electronic cigarettes. This substance is highly toxic, difficult to control, and can easily induce hallucinations, agitation, and poses risks of neurological and cardiovascular damage.

The investigation into the case is ongoing and being expanded.
