Duc's counterfeit production ring was described as "especially large-scale, operating nationwide." It was dismantled on 5/1 by Lao Cai Provincial Police, the Anti-Corruption, Economic, and Smuggling Crime Investigation Department (C03) under the Ministry of Public Security, and Hanoi Police.
At a Medistar factory in Quang Minh Industrial Park, Quang Minh commune, Hanoi, investigators discovered thousands of fake and substandard functional food products being manufactured and packaged for distribution. These counterfeit products primarily included collagen supplements, vitamins, bone and joint supplements, and digestive aids.
Initial investigations determined that from 2012 to 2025, the defendants in the ring sold hundreds of tons of various fake functional foods, generating nearly 1,800 billion VND in revenue. This significantly impacted consumer health and rights. The defendants are also accused of keeping hundreds of billions of VND off the accounting books, thus illegally profiting and causing tax losses for the State.
The Lao Cai Provincial Police Investigation Agency is continuing to expand its investigation into the matter.
