Seven people summoned in Mong Cai taxi driver assault case

Seven people were summoned after a taxi driver was assaulted; initial investigations reveal the conflict began when a group of passengers requested to add more people to the taxi, but the driver refused.

On 30/8, Mong Cai 1 Ward Police announced they had identified and summoned seven individuals involved in the assault of Mr. Dat, 28 years old. The police are consolidating the case file to process it according to regulations.

Those summoned include Ha Thuy Van, 40; Do Thanh Tung, 48; Ha Ngoc Ly, 35; Nguyen The Manh, 20, all residing in Mong Cai 1 and Mong Cai 2 wards. Also summoned were Nguyen Thi Mai Trang, 31, residing in Bai Chay ward; Le Trung Kien, 32; and Dang Ngoc Loan, 31, both residing in Ha Long ward.

According to initial investigation results, at approximately 2h20 on the same day, Mr. Dat picked up 4 passengers – one male and three females – in front of Lin Lounge 79, Tho Xuan residential area. The passengers showed signs of having consumed alcohol.

As the taxi began to move, two women in the passenger seat asked to turn back to pick up another friend. Mr. Dat explained that the car was already carrying the permitted 4 people and could not take any more.

According to the police, the group of passengers then cursed and repeatedly punched the driver in the face and head. Mr. Dat opened the door and ran towards Lin Lounge 79 to avoid the assault. However, this group, along with several others, chased him, using their hands, feet, shoes, sticks, and water pipes to beat him unconscious on the street.

The victim tried to crawl into a karaoke room inside the lounge to hide. At approximately 3h, he was discovered by colleagues and rushed to Mong Cai Regional Hospital with multiple injuries.

On the morning of the same day, after receiving a report from the victim's family, Mong Cai 1 Ward Police began verification and summoned those involved.
