According to the investigation, on the evening of 17/3, Doan Van Lam, 67, Thia's father, was on the phone when his wife complained, asking him to hang up. Angered, Lam grabbed a knife and threatened to stab her.

Hearing his mother's cries for help, Thia ran in to intervene. During the altercation, he used a standing electric fan to strike Lam multiple times, causing severe injuries that led to his death.

After the incident, Thia surrendered to the police.
