Thanh Hoa province vice chairman arrested

Nguyen Van Thi, standing vice chairman of the Thanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee, has been arrested on charges of abusing his position and power.

The decision to prosecute and arrest Mr. Thi was approved by the Thanh Hoa Provincial People's Procuracy on 12/9.

Mr. Thi is accused of abusing his position and power while on duty, under Article 356 of the Penal Code. Authorities have not yet released details of his alleged misconduct.

Mr. Thi, 53, previously served as chairman of the board of directors and general director of Thanh Hoa Medical Equipment and Supplies Joint Stock Company, and head of the Management Board of the Nghi Son Economic Zone and industrial parks in Thanh Hoa province.

In June 2020, he was elected by the Provincial People's Council as vice chairman of the Thanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee for the 2016-2021 term and was re-elected for the following term.
