Six days prior to his arrest, a 24-year-old driver picked up Nho in a pickup truck. When the driver complained of fatigue, Nho took the wheel despite not possessing a driver's license. He affixed a fake license plate to the vehicle to avoid detection by police if caught by traffic cameras.
Around 8:30 am, a patrol team from the Tay Ninh Provincial Police's traffic police department spotted the oto, driven by Nho, speeding in Binh Duc commune. Officers signaled him to stop, but Nho refused, accelerating and fleeing for kilometers.
Upon reaching a road blocked by an oto, Nho could not proceed and turned the vehicle around. A traffic police officer caught up, positioning himself in front of the pickup truck and ordering Nho to exit the vehicle. However, Nho collided with the police motorcycle, nearly knocking the officer down, and then ran over the motorcycle's wheel before continuing his escape.
Nho later discarded the fake license plate in a residential area behind the Binh Duc commune People's Committee before going into hiding. After several days of searching, police located Nho and the pickup truck, which was bearing its real license plate, 60C-736.65.
Investigators are also clarifying the actions of the 24-year-old vehicle owner who allowed Nho to drive the pickup truck.
