Two sisters undergo dramatic transformation after losing over 300 kg

Once facing numerous health issues due to obesity, the American sisters collectively lost over 300 kg to reclaim normal lives.

Tammy Slaton, 40, and her sister Amy Slaton, 38, have astonished viewers of the reality television series "1000-lb Sisters" with their remarkable weight loss. In the trailer for season 9, set to air on 1/9, Amy revealed she has lost 91 kg. Tammy, once dependent on a wheelchair and an oxygen machine, has achieved significant independence.

The sisters grew up in rural Kentucky in a single-parent household. Financial hardship meant their diet often consisted of fast food and relief provisions. Following the death of their grandmother, both turned to food for emotional comfort, leading to uncontrolled weight gain.

When filming for the show began in 2020, Amy weighed 184 kg, and Tammy weighed 276 kg. Tammy's weight peaked at 329 kg, resulting in numerous health complications and rendering her unable to perform daily activities independently.

Tammy experienced a severe health crisis in late 2021 when she was hospitalized for respiratory failure, requiring a ventilator and medically induced coma. This critical event became a turning point. She subsequently moved to a weight loss facility in Ohio, where she lost 82 kg over 14 months, qualifying her for gastric bypass surgery. Following the surgery, Tammy diligently continued to manage her diet and exercise.

By August 2024, Tammy's weight stabilized at 108 kg, a reduction of nearly two-thirds from her heaviest. In 2025, she underwent an additional surgery to remove almost 7 kg of excess skin from her chin, arms, and lower abdomen.

Today, Tammy can sit in the front seat of a car, fasten her own seatbelt, walk, and sleep without a ventilator. Her transformation has enabled her to move beyond being housebound; she now attends job interviews, swims with her family, and volunteers at the Vanderburgh animal shelter. She also recently announced her engagement.

Amy has also achieved significant progress, losing half of her body weight. She is currently planning skin removal surgery and learning to drive. In October 2025, Amy married sports reporter Brian Lovvorn after one year of dating.
