At approximately 4:15 p.m., a truck registered in Quang Tri was traveling on the La Son - Hoa Lien expressway in the north-south direction. Upon reaching Km42, north of the Mui Trau tunnel in Hai Van ward, Da Nang city, the truck braked suddenly. This caused nine cars and one other truck to be unable to react in time, resulting in a chain collision involving 11 vehicles.
Witness Hoang Lich reported that the accident occurred over a stretch of road about 50-70 m long. The scene was chaotic, with many vehicles thrown to the sides of the road, an area currently undergoing expansion from two to 4 lanes. There were no human casualties, but all vehicles sustained damage.

At the scene, cars showed dents to their front or rear sections, with many fragments of glass and debris scattered across the road surface. Lich stated that the truck appeared to lose control, swerving back and forth while driving, leading to collisions with vehicles traveling in both the same and opposite directions.
The accident caused traffic congestion on the expressway for about 30 minutes, extending for several kilometers. The road management unit quickly coordinated with the construction unit to direct traffic, guiding vehicles to proceed slowly in one-way flow to prevent prolonged gridlock.

At the time of the accident, the weather was clear with no rain, and the road surface was dry; the signage and road markings systems were complete. This section of the route was handed over for upgrade and expansion starting 1/6/2025. The cause of the accident is currently under investigation.
The La Son - Hoa Lien expressway is approximately 65 km long and is part of the La Son - Tuy Loan route, connecting Hue city with Da Nang city. It opened in 4/2022 with two lanes and a design speed of 60-80 km/h. The project is currently being expanded to 4 lanes with a total investment exceeding 3,010 billion VND.
