On 5/1, the Ben Thanh traffic police team (Ho Chi Minh City (TP HCM) traffic police department) announced that the teenage girl was fined according to Decree 168/2024. The violation was riding a moto with both hands off the handlebars, posing a serious traffic accident risk.
In addition to confiscating the vehicle, authorities are also working with the vehicle owner to issue a fine for entrusting a vehicle to an underage driver.
Earlier, a video circulated on social media showing the girl riding an SH scooter with two other passengers on Ba Son bridge, heading from Thu Thiem urban area towards Ton Duc Thang street, Sai Gon ward. For a stretch of over ten meters, the driver rode with both hands off the handlebars, arms spread wide.
When questioned by authorities, the teenage girl admitted to the violation, stating that she was taking two female friends out and, unable to control her actions, let go of the handlebars while the vehicle was in motion.
Ho Chi Minh City traffic police stated that they are continuing to verify and invite another young person for questioning regarding similar behavior while riding a moto across Ba Son bridge, to be processed according to regulations.
