16-year-old student dies after slipping down deep waterfall

A 10th-grade student drowned after accidentally slipping 8 meters into a deep gorge at Phu Xuan waterfall while taking photos with friends.

On the evening of 28/5, Nhu Van Hoc, Chairman of Gia Hiep Commune People's Committee, confirmed that rescue forces located the body of Ho Tran Bao Mai in a deep gorge and returned it to her family for funeral arrangements.

Earlier that day, around noon, the 10th-grade student had visited Phu Xuan waterfall in Hamlet 1 with a group of friends. At approximately 3 PM, while taking photos near the waterfall's edge, she accidentally slipped, falling into the deep gorge below.

The Gia Hiep Commune People's Committee mobilized local police and military forces, collaborating with the Fire Prevention, Fighting, and Rescue Police of Lam Dong Provincial Police, to search for the victim.

The rescue operation faced difficulties due to the accident site being a steep cliff with numerous large rocks. Rescue teams utilized cables and specialized equipment to access the area. The victim's body was recovered around 6:30 PM.

Phu Xuan waterfall is located approximately 90 km south of Da Lat. It remains one of the more pristine waterfalls on the Di Linh plateau, nestled amidst hills, coffee farms, and natural forests. The water cascades over several rock tiers, creating a majestic landscape, particularly during the rainy season when the flow is strong.
