On 13/7, Chu Van Long, executive director of the Cam Lo - La Son Expressway Expansion Project Management Board, an entity under the Ho Chi Minh Road Project Management Board, announced that the contractor found old military bunkers while clearing XUOC Du hill in Kim Long ward for the roundabout.
Following inspection, the project team revised the roundabout design and alignment to bypass the 6 bunkers. The new plans have been submitted to the Ministry of Construction for approval before construction can resume. The redesigned interchange between the Cam Lo - La Son expressway and provincial road 12B will now include an overpass, preventing intersections with the Hue city bypass road and enhancing traffic safety.

Long explained that during the initial survey for the interchange, XUOC Du hill was covered in dense acacia and cajuput forest. Consequently, the consulting and project development teams did not detect the 6 bunkers.
The Cam Lo - La Son expressway spans 98,3 km, with 36,3 km in Quang Tri and 62 km in Hue city. Its phase 1, totaling 7,700 billion dong, opened on 31/12/2022 after over three years of construction. This phase features two lanes, with periodic four-lane overtaking sections stretching 1-1,5 km, and includes an emergency stopping lane. Operating speeds range from 60-80 km/h on two-lane segments and up to 80 km/h on four-lane segments.
Expansion of the Cam Lo - La Son expressway began in 12/2025, increasing it from two to four lanes and widening the roadbed from 12 to 23 m. This project, with an investment exceeding 6,000 billion dong, is fully funded by the state budget and is slated for completion in 2026.
