According to the branch, the water supply system experienced a pressure drop on the morning of 14/7. Locating the fault was difficult due to heavy rain causing deep flooding. After one day of searching, the branch identified the pipe had burst at a technical manhole at the intersection of a rainwater drainage culvert and the water supply pipeline, in an area undergoing road construction.
The cause was determined to be that the construction unit broke the water supply pipe while using an excavator to clear a drainage path after the rain.
The Phu Quoc Water Supply Branch mobilized its entire repair team. However, continuous rain caused many obstacles to the repair work, requiring the branch to hire divers to access the damaged location in the flooded manhole. The incident is expected to be resolved within the day.
The special economic zone's water supply system is managed and operated by the Phu Quoc Water Supply Branch, drawing from Duong Dong Lake, which has a capacity of approximately 5.9 million cubic meters and supplies water to about 14,000 households. The locality is building Duong Dong 2 Water Plant, with a capacity of 36,000 cubic meters per day, expected to be completed next year.
Phu Quoc special economic zone is 120 km east of Rach Gia and 45 km west of Ha Tien, covering an area of 570 square kilometers with a population of nearly 160,000 people. It boasts diverse landscapes and beautiful beaches, attracting both domestic and international tourists.
